Darts Betting for Profit. (Trading and Dutching)
I have never been much of a sports investor my speciality has always been the UK horse racing. So while I was recuperating I was watching with interest the Grand Slam of darts and I was watching the match between Raymond van Barneveld and Terry Jenkins when I noticed how often the first thrower in the darts leg actually went on to win the leg.
To anybody wanting to learn how to trade, sports betting markets can be an excellent way to dip your toe into the water. As a general rule the odds move slowly and in a steady direction until a pivotal moment occurs. In darts this could be a set won or a break of throw at a crucial time. Even when this occurs you can still trade out of the position and reopen a trade to try and repair any damage done.
When I started trading this initial match I noticed that the legs where pretty much being won by the first thrower and this started my trading strategy.
I started by taking a small position on Raymond van Barneveld at odds of 1.59 for a £100 stake

I then follow after a few seconds taking a Lay bet of 1.56 for a stake of £101.92 at this point I have locked in a £1.92 guaranteed position.

I then open the next leg with a back bet on Terry Jenkins at 2.48 for £100

Raymond van Barneveld has an unusually bad leg and Terry Jenkins wins the leg quickly, this of course enables me to lock in a profit on this leg also. I Lay at 2.38 for £104.20.
This continues to build the profit position to now £6.12.

Now I open a trade on Raymond van Barneveld at 1.9 for £100

The leg goes again according to plan and Raymond van Barneveld is locked in for a Lay bet of 1.7 for £111.76. This builds the profit to a position of £17.88 on Terry Jenkins and £17.89 on Raymond van Barneveld.

This idea developed into a very nice position for just a few legs trading, a nice £17.88 profit on the match and all for a few minutes work. I then settled down to watch the climax of the game as Terry Jenkins held his nerve and beat Raymond van Barneveld.
With this new found idea I decided to look at the next match up, Phil Taylor vs. Simon Whitlock, but to my horror I saw Phil Taylor was only 1.06 to back before the game started. So I decided to fire up the Dutching function of Bet-IE and have a look at the correct score betting.
I wanted to back Phil Taylor and although the odds were indicating a one sided game, Simon Whitlock had played well in the previous games and I had a feeling that he wouldn’t just roll over to Phil Taylor so the scores of Taylor to win 10-4; 10-5; 10-6; 10-7 where my ‘winning scores’ I also took ‘insurance’ to return my stake should Taylor win 10-3; 10-8; 10-9.

This gives me a Dutching profit of £43.76 if one of my ‘winning scores’ is the correct result; a return of my £100 stake if one of my ‘insurance bets’ wins or a £100 loss if one of the other outcomes occurs.
After an unusual shaky start Phil Taylor comes through strongly and wins the match 10-7 so I collect another nice profit! Taylor winning 10 – 7

With the current World Championships being shown on Sky and the BDO world championships being shown on the BBC why not take a moment to watch a few legs and if you see a distinct advantage to one of the players why not try a small trade or Dutch?
Trading in a slightly different way this time I decided to use the Jan van der Rassel vs. Kirk Shepherd match the other afternoon at the PDC World Championships and in this match Jan van der Rassel could do no wrong. Every leg he just went further clear of Kirk Shepherd. So I traded Jan van der Rassel for a few legs and picked up a quick £18.56 profit.
Another successful trade was made using the Mark Walsh vs. Mervyn King match. Mervyn King had been playing exceptionally well and Mark Walsh although a good player is recovering from a problem known as Dartitis where he cannot release the dart as he requires, especially under pressure. So my position was clear I wanted to trade early legs to go with the throw and the later legs as the pressure built I wanted to trade Mervyn King. Again the strategy worked well and in what seemed like no time at all I had built a very nice trading position of £51.18 guaranteed profit.

If you have never tried to make a profit from the darts I do urge you to have a look at it, it may turn out to be one of the best decisions you have made and with Bet-IE’s help it makes generating a profit so much easier!
Until next time, stay lucky
